Rekindle Hope: Embrace its Remarkable Healing Power

December 25, 2023

How do you rekindle hope? Despite bitter setbacks, anguish, and loss, hope is the emotion that offers remarkable healing power. If you’ve lost hope, take heart. Embrace hope and bring it back to life.

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Rekindle Hope

If you want to rekindle hope, consider this quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. To me, it embodies all that is great and noble about humanity. Yes, we do suffer disappointments. Yet, we also can rebound from those setbacks and make even more remarkable progress afterward. It isn’t how often or how much we stumble that matters but how we pick ourselves up and move on.

Hope Heals Painful Loss

Many of us know firsthand how painful loss eats away at our souls. When we lose a loved one, our hearts feel broken. We wonder if we’ll ever heal from the crushing pain and anguish. Having lost many family members, I know the weight and burden of pain.

The platitude about how time heals all wounds contains a grain of truth. However, it seems a small comfort at the time.

Yet I know that disappointment doesn’t last. That is, it won’t last if we do something about it. And hope has remarkable healing power.

Rekindle Hope to Overcome Mistakes

We may relate, for example, to the desire to hold ourselves accountable for a costly mistake, error, misstep, unfortunate event, or failure to achieve. Who doesn’t remember these life experiences?

  • Acknowledging our part and taking responsibility may bring some relief, but we need to do more.
  • Consciously learning from the mistake allows us to get past the hurt. That’s how disappointment is finite.

Remarkable Healing Power

Where does the remarkable healing power of hope come in? I believe in the power of possibility. There is an even more significant potential for good things to occur for every bad thing. I actively look for them.

In doing so, the negativity attached to the bad thing tends to recede. It is replaced by the buoyancy and uplifting goodness of that which is positive.

Rekindle Hope: Examine Attitudes and Beliefs

No darkness can withstand the light. When light shines into dark corners, it illuminates what hides in the shadows.

  • Sometimes, this means we have to look closely at our attitudes.
  • We must then change our outmoded, inaccurate, and unreliable beliefs. This opens us up to the healing power of hope and change.

To Rekindle Hope Requires Effort

Not that change comes without effort. Nor that change necessarily is without pain. You need both for growth to occur. Therein lies hope’s remarkable healing power.

As long as we live, we have hope. Treasure that and embrace hope. Remember that when disappointment darkens your day, only hope allows the infinite healing power to follow. Embrace it.
