Happiness is a highly desirable emotion. Yet, too often, people search endlessly for elusive happiness. These simple treats can help you feel amazing and live a happy life.
“One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats.” – Iris Murdoch
Happiness: Simple Tips for How to Be Happy
Happiness is delightful. So are treats. And I enjoy them. Furthermore, I know how to be happy.
Whether it’s the tiny nibble of a decadent dessert, the first glimpse of the lit, decorated Christmas tree, relaxing with a good book, or laughing at a well-told joke, any treat I give myself adds to my happiness.
Some might say I please easily. That’s a good thing. I find joy in life’s tiniest treasures. For me, everything counts. So, I open my heart to happiness.
How I Learned About Happiness
But realizing happiness doesn’t occur all at once. It takes years of experience, learning from mistakes, and close brushes with tragedy and death for some to appreciate the little things—which add up to the big things, as in life itself. Furthermore, this summarizes my journey.
Let’s say you don’t go for the blowout and expect it to last. While having an exhilarating moment is great, you’re mistaken if you think it will be here forever. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. Also, that’s why it’s important to savor the bite-size moments, the here and now, exquisite experiences of all the senses of sight, touch, sound, taste, and smell.
Appreciate Small Treats: They Add Up to Happiness
What constitutes a small treat to you? Keep in mind that it has to have some meaning to qualify.
- First, does it make you smile or laugh? Laughing is an instant boost.
- Also, do you treasure the relationship or bond and the expression of your caring or love?
- Besides, is this a little reward for your hard work, solace for not quite achieving a goal, or a shared treat with friends, loved ones, co-workers, or others?
Remember, treats can be just about anything. Therefore, what matters isn’t what the treat is but what it means to you and how it makes you feel. The key is that you can cultivate happiness.
Permit Yourself to Be Happy
Perhaps the more significant issue is your willingness to allow yourself treats. However, if you don’t think you deserve them or are somehow being punished, you likely won’t seek them out at all. Furthermore, if you do, you don’t permit yourself to enjoy them fully.
However, the bigger lesson is this: Life presents us with myriad challenges. Remember, the good experiences, the joyous moments, and the little treats help us find and experience life’s vibrancy, purpose, and how to be happy.
