The key to overcoming sadness, paralysis, and fear that bad news tends to trigger is to learn and practice effective coping strategies that include belief, awareness, and love.

How do you do that? How do you learn strategies about belief awareness and love? Start by making a list of the beliefs you hold. These may include some of the following:

  • Family is paramount.

Next, work on cultivating awareness in everyday situations. It isn’t that you’re asleep, but you may tend to allow your mind to wander. While distraction may prove handy as a temporary antidote to negativity, in the long run, not being present prevents you from making substantive progress toward goals.

How to Become More Aware

Help yourself become more aware:

  • Slowing down.
  • Take time to reflect on the good things in your life.
  • Practice meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
  • Go for a walk in nature.
  • Practice gratitude for your blessings.

Love is perhaps the most misunderstood of belief, awareness, and love, the three things that cannot be destroyed. You might think that because someone dumped you or your spouse left you for another, that love is dead and gone for you. Nothing could be further from the truth.
